POCO X8 Pro Series Tipped for March 26 Launch: 9,000mAh Battery & New Dimensity Chips

0

POCO is preparing to reclaim its title as the “performance-per-rupee” king. On Thursday, March 5, 2026, the brand officially started teasing its next-generation X8 Pro series globally. For the Indian market, where the X-series has a cult following among mobile gamers, the announcement of MediaTek’s latest high-performance silicon suggests a major leap over the POCO X7 Pro.

The lineup, expected to be based on the recently launched Redmi Turbo 5 series from China, is positioning itself as the go-to choice for users who prioritize raw power and extreme battery endurance over professional-grade photography.

The Hardware: Dimensity 8500 Ultra & 9500s

POCO is diversifying its processor strategy to hit different price tiers within the “Pro” umbrella.

  • POCO X8 Pro: This model will house the Dimensity 8500 Ultra, a chipset optimized for sustained gaming and high-efficiency thermal management.

  • POCO X8 Pro Max: The higher-end variant gets the Dimensity 9500s, a “scaled-back” version of MediaTek’s flagship 9500. This chip is designed to deliver “flagship-grade” AI performance and processing speed at a sub-premium price.

Battery King: The 9,000mAh Milestone

Perhaps the most shocking specification is the battery capacity of the Pro Max.

  • The 9,000mAh Claim: If leaks are accurate, the global Pro Max will feature a 9,000mAh unit. This would effectively turn the phone into a multi-day device even for heavy gamers.

  • The Standard Pro: The base Pro model isn’t slouching either, with a tipped 6,500mAh battery, significantly higher than the industry standard of 5,000mAh.

Design & Display: 1.5K OLED and Colorways

POCO is moving away from basic 1080p panels in its Pro lineup.

  • Visuals: Both phones will feature 1.5K resolution OLED screens with a 120Hz refresh rate. The Pro Max will offer more screen real estate at 6.83 inches compared to the Pro’s 6.59 inches.

  • Colors: The series will debut in Mint, Black, and White, moving toward a cleaner, more minimalist look compared to the “POCO Yellow” era.

Reality Check

The 9,000mAh battery is a game-changer. Still, such a large battery usually results in a significantly thicker and heavier phone. Therefore, while the endurance will be legendary, users should expect a “hefty” device that might not be comfortable for one-handed use. In fact, the “Dimensity 9500s” is likely a customized chip for POCO, meaning real-world performance will depend heavily on how well HyperOS is optimized for this specific silicon.

The Loopholes

POCO is teasing a “March launch.” In fact, this is a “Quarterly Clearance Loophole”—by launching on March 26, POCO captures the end-of-financial-year spending in India. Therefore, expect aggressive “instant bank discounts” to make the ₹33,000 price tag look like ₹29,999. Still, the “Redmi Rebrand Loophole” remains; if these are truly based on the Redmi Turbo 5, the global versions might see slight downgrades in charging speeds (potentially capped at 67W or 80W) compared to Chinese models to keep costs low.

What This Means for You

If you are a mobile gamer, hold your purchase for three weeks. First, realize that the Dimensity 9500s will likely crush the Snapdragon 7-series chips found in rivals at this price point. Then, if you travel a lot, understand that the 9,000mAh Pro Max could eliminate the need for a power bank entirely.

Finally, understand that storage matters. You should aim for the 12GB + 512GB variant if you plan to keep the phone for 3+ years, especially given that HyperOS 2.0/3.0 updates are becoming increasingly resource-heavy. Before you buy, check for the “Iron Man Edition” details—if it launches, it will likely be a limited-run collector’s item with a custom theme and back panel.

What’s Next

The official Flipkart landing page is expected to go live by March 15. Then, look for the official launch event on March 26, 2026. Finally, expect the first open sale to commence by the first week of April, potentially coinciding with the start of the 2026 IPL season.
