YouTube’s New ‘Recap’ Feature: It’s Spotify Wrapped for Videos, Complete with a Personality Type

0

The big news is that YouTube is rolling out this new annual roundup experience. It’s separate from the existing YouTube Music Recap, which has been around for a while.

The goal? To spotlight your actual viewing habits—the channels you obsessed over, the interests you deep-dived into, and how your taste evolved.

What’s Inside the Recap?

You get up to 12 personalized cards, perfect for sharing on social media, obviously.

And here’s the kicker, the part that’s pure Wrapped energy: They’re assigning you a “personality type” based on your watch history.

They ran over 50 different tests before landing on the final types. Some of the personalities include:

  • Adventurer

  • Skill Builder (you love learning new stuff)

  • Creative Spirit

  • Sunshiner (someone who looks for feel-good content)

  • Wonder Seeker

  • Connector

  • Philosopher and Dreamer (apparently the rarer types).

It’s interesting because it tries to give a narrative to those hours spent down the YouTube rabbit hole.

Access and Availability

  • Where to find it: Look for a dedicated banner on the YouTube homepage or check under the “You” tab in the user menu.

  • Rollout: It’s launching in the US starting today and rolling out globally this week. It works on both mobile and desktop.

  • Music: If you use YouTube for music, some music stats (top artists/songs) will be included in the main Recap, but if you want the deep dive on genres and podcasts, you’ll still need to check the separate YouTube Music Recap app.

YouTube also shared some platform-wide trend charts. Not entirely surprising, things like MrBeast still rule the top creator list, and The Joe Rogan Experience is number one for podcasts. But it’s the shift—like how a soundtrack that dominated the top songs chart didn’t perform as well on Shorts—that reveals the changing viewing ecosystem.
